COME WALK WITH US!
We are excited for our 3rd annual Walk the Wildwood event this year!
We have several goals this year…
Fundraising
Funds raised this year will help build 2 new dorms on campus for vocational students; 1 for girls and 1 for boys. 60 students housed in each.
Money raised the past 2 years helped complete and equip the new carpentry and welding shop on the school campus. It’s expected to open summer 2024.
Other goals
100 walking participants
Consider inviting folks to join you: book club members, gym buddies, neighbors, work colleagues
10 new student champions (sponsors) - follow this link for more information

Come join us for this family-friendly event.
Choose from one of three walking routes
Option #1
1 mile walk
For those with strollers and/or new knees!!
About 1 mile, not entirely flat, but we will keep to trails that don’t require much uphill & downhill, approximately 30 minutes.
We will follow trails through the wedding meadow and out to the Redwood Deck. The Redwood Deck is a highlight of the Hoyt Arboretum, where one is surrounded by giant redwood trees.
Option #2
3.5 mile walk
A great tour of the Vietnam Memorial, the Hoyt Arboretum and sections of Washington Park. Plus, you don’t have to get up too early to join this walk! It’s about 3.5 miles and has about a 300 ft elevation gain, this walk will take approximately 1.5 hours.
This is a loop hike starting and ending at Stevens pavilion, where we will have our lunch after the hike. We begin with a short climb to a wonderful viewpoint of Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Hood, then downhill through the Vietnam Memorial, and over to and past the archery range. We will return to the Arboretum via the Wildwood trail which offers an overlook view of the Japanese Garden as it meanders through close-by residential areas. We re-enter the Arboretum at the Redwood Deck where we are surrounded by giant redwood trees and then follow trails back to the Stevens pavilion passing western cedars and massive Douglas firs.
Option #3
7.5 mile walk
The best views, and a great workout on a Saturday morning! This walk is about 7.5 miles and, with the climb up to the Pittock, has a total elevation gain of about 1000 ft. Our pace will work for all who choose this great Saturday workout and this walk will take us between 3.5 and 4 hours. You won’t want to give away your bag of potato chips at lunch!
We begin with the same loop hike as Option 2 and return to Stevens Pavilion for water and a short break, then we start out on the White Pine trail to rejoin the Wildwood. We follow the Wildwood over the Burnside elevated pedestrian bridge and then to the Pittock Mansion where we are rewarded with an outstanding view of Portland and Mts. St. Helens and Hood. We then return to the Stevens Pavilion via the Wildwood, the Redwood Deck and the Wedding Meadow.
All Options Include
Along the way, learn about the school, student success stories, our mission trips to Kamwenge as well as interesting facts about Hoyt Arboretum and the trails
Enjoy a catered boxed lunch at Stevens Pavilion with fellow walkers
Linger afterward to enjoy the park and continue your conversations with other participants
Our commitment to the environment
We encourage everyone to bring their own refillable water bottle (we will provide water for refilling)
We decided not to print any swag for the event this year but instead to offer an opportunity to recycle used sneakers through GotSneakers
Bring your sneakers to the event (or bring them to the church and leave them in Geneva Hall under the sign)
We will earn money on sneakers in excellent, good or fair condition. Other sneakers will be recycled and kept out of the landfill.
