August 7, 2027 for our next ride!!
We had everything in place for a great ride this year. We partnered with Maplewood Public House in Glen Ellyn (same location, new owners), planned for months, added some fun new gifts, and Bicycle Illinois had the route ready to go.
Then the weather had other plans.
A huge storm the Monday before knocked out power and flooded the path, more rain followed, and another storm hit on the morning of Saturday, August 1. With slippery wooden bridges, flooded sections, and sandstone trails too soft to ride, we had to cancel the ride, but not the party! Riders, volunteers, and their families, including many first-time riders, gathered at Maplewood for great food, a beer, and a chance to reconnect with old friends.
A special thanks to Dan Minkus, a long-time rider who took over the reins from Gary Alcock this year and brought new ideas, energy, and friends to the event. Together, donors, riders, and volunteers raised close to $60,000 for students at KSVS.
